Ann’s Story

Nineteen years ago I was a naïve college freshman, making negative life choices and involved with a man who abused me. After I got pregnant, I knew I needed help—help to get through the pregnancy and help escaping the toxic situation. At Blue Ridge Women’s Center, a wonderful woman counseled me and helped me look to God to regain my self-esteem and strength.

In 1991 my beautiful baby girl Kristen was born. From day one she has been a blessing to me. She is even responsible for snagging the man of my dreams, my husband Dale. A college freshman now herself, Kristen has blessed so many lives….

I now volunteer at Blue Ridge Women’s Center, working with mothers who want to make a better future for themselves and their families. What a privilege it has been for me to get to know these beautiful clients, and see God use the challenging situation He brought me through as an opportunity to help other women in unplanned pregnancies.

We will never know all the lives touched by Blue Ridge Women’s Center, but I do know that mine has been and continues to be every day that I walk through the doors. I don’t know what I would have done if God hadn’t brought this wonderful place into my life.

Ann shared this story at our 2009 Fundraising Banquet, and has since joined the Center’s staff as our Events and Campaign Coordinator, and then transferred to Director of Counseling Services where she currently serves.
